Eight myths about interpreters

The profession of interpreter is very important and hard as it is both mental and physical labour. But still there are people who consider this work to be very easy. And a lot of myths appear thanks to such thoughts. Here are some myths:

1. Every person who knows foreign language can translate.

2. The demand for the profession of interpreters and translators decreases.

3. This profession didn't change from ancient times.

4. Translator can't translate the text on technical topic properly. It may be done only by technologist.

5. The work of interpreters is very easy but well-paid.

6. Translating is not creative work.

7. The role of interpreters and translators is not very important in the modern world.

8. Translating is small-scale business.

Of course all these myths are false. First of all not everybody is able to translate due to mental and psychological abilities of the person not to mention theoretical knowledge. Secondly, the demand and the level of importance of this work increases day by day. Statistics proves that. There are no untranslatable texts; a good interpreter and translator are able to translate any text not depending on the topic. And of course the work of interpreter is very hard and sometimes very risky. If you don't believe, try it. And then you'll understand that it is not only hard work but also creative work.
