Disadvantages
The profession of interpreter is very important and really interesting. But it is very complicated at the same time. And when people begin to work as interpreters they understand that this work is much more complicated than it may seem at first.
When people choose this profession they should consider and remember all disadvantages it may have.
First of all interpreters have to spend hours and days with their clients. That is why they have to sacrifice their health and family to do their work properly. This work provokes a lot of divorces, as husbands/wives are jealous. So families are often ruined because of the work.
This work is often unstable. There are only a few companies that have regular interpreters and translators. These are usually big companies. So, be ready for unstable work. During one period of time you are able to get a lot of money but the next month you may not have work at all.
Another disadvantage is possible travels on business. The first travels will be interesting and excited, as visiting unknown countries is always thrilling. But with the lapse of time you will be fed up of spending all your time in planes and trains.
Another disadvantage is the negative or impolite attitude of clients to you. Some of them may be really rude with you and have no respect to your work thinking you are only a waiter/waitress.
And the biggest disadvantage is that this work is really very hard. During interpreting and translation two parts of the brain work, that is why people get tired quickly not to mention simultaneous translation. People who work in simultaneous translation retire earlier than other workers. Besides their timetable consists of 10 minutes of work that should be followed obligatory by 30 minutes of rest.
